As many of you know times are tough and someone suggested I apply to jobs that aren’t advertised in the public space so I don’t have to compete as much. I thought I would type in the keywords Afghanistan and Iraq and attempt to apply to jobs there.
I applied for a job as a civilian for the State Department back in September and deemed as highly qualified, Eligible Referred to Selecting Official. I never received any correspondence though. So I decided to write those people over at the State Department an email. For this one position they received 269 applications (TWO HUNDRED AND SIXTY NINE APPLICATIONS) for people who answered yes to the question “Would you have any objection to going to Iraq and possibly being killed by insurgents or blown up by an IED?” They deemed only 29 of us qualified.
As I said to my haterz who want to see an end to this blog and my demise: “I’m really trying over here.”
I have a question about this listing. https://my.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/2335559 My status was listed as Eligible Referred to Selecting Official but I was never contacted for an interview. Now the status shows Not Selected. Is this normal and can you elaborate on the process?
Good Morning, After we determine which candidates meet the minimum qualifications for the position we forward that list of eligible candidates to the hiring manager. It is up to the hiring manager to choose who they want to interview. They are not required to interview everyone on the list. We had 269 apply for the GS-11 position and of those 29 met the minimum requirements. These were forwarded to the hiring manager who determined who they wanted to interview from this list. I hope this answers your question.Any questions call me.
